Indian Railways’ Tatkal Ticket Charges: Timings, Charges For AC, Sleeper Classes
Indian Railways offers the facility of booking Tatkal tickets both online and offline. A Tatkal ticket is meant for passengers who do not have a reserved accommodation and are looking to travel at a short notice. A Tatkal ticket booking is available on payment of premium charges on a first-come-first-served basis, according to IRCTC’s official website – irctc.co.in. IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) is the e-ticketing arm of Indian Railways. Tatkal ticket bookings are allowed in all classes except First AC. Tatkal booking window opens at 10 am for AC classes and 11 am for non-AC classes, one before the actual date of journey.
Here are 5 things to know about Indian Railways’ Tatkal ticket charges:
1. Tatkal ticket charges have been fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 10 per cent of basic fare for second class and 30 per cent of basic fare for all other classes subject to certain minimum and maximum charges, according to Indian Railways’
2 Under the sleeper class, for example, Indian Railways charges a minimum of Rs. 100 and a maximum of Rs. 200 for booking of a train ticket under the Tatkal quota.
3. For an AC Chair Car ticket, the charges levied by the Indian Railways are in the range of Rs.125-225.
Class of Travel | Minimum Tatkal Charges (in Rs.) | Maximum Tatkal Charges (in Rs.) | Minimum Distance for charge(in Km) |
---|---|---|---|
Second (sitting) | 10 | 15 | 100 |
Sleeper | 100 | 200 | 500 |
AC Chair Car | 125 | 225 | 250 |
AC 3 Tier | 300 | 400 | 500 |
AC 2 Tier | 400 | 500 | 500 |
Executive | 400 | 500 | 250 |
4. The Tatkal ticket charges are levied uniformly both in peak period & non-peak periods, according to Indian Railways’ website.
5. On cancellation of Tatkal tickets, railway grants no refund. However, under certain circumstances refund rule is applicable, noted Indian Railways.
Sr..citizen reduced charged may be included as we have similar condition criteria u are giving preferance as normal ticket..
ReplyDeleteEarlier it was declared that on cancellation of tatkal tckt.some amount will be refunded. But now it hasn't been mentioned in the above rules.
ReplyDeleteAnother important concern is about senior citizens. Why doesn't IRCTC give Senior Citizen Concession in Tatkal ticket? It should be given.
senior citizen ka normal mein karib2 mil jata hai fir tatkal mein unke qota Touts ko badhawa dene jaisa hai.
DeleteThe concession for Sr citizens should be provided in the rule. Secondly, some percentage should be fixed against cancelation of tickets in emergency for refund
ReplyDeleteOnline tatkal booking must be made confirmed. Waiting for chart preparation has influence and double allotment are possible. Ladies also safe.
ReplyDeleteSENIOR CITIZEN DESERVES SPECIAL CONCESSION AS ULTIMATELY EVERY ONE IS GOING TO BE SENIOR CITIZEN.
ReplyDeleteSpecial concession required for Sr. Citizen....
ReplyDeleteExisting Senior citizen concession should be extended to Tatkal Reservation also.
ReplyDeleteseniour citizens, above 60yrs age should be allowed for Tatkal bookings too,why not.
ReplyDeletefor tatkal tickets bookings, snr citizens conseccions should must be made available, with immediate effects.
ReplyDeleteWhy does the INDIAN RAILWAYS.
ReplyDeleteIs not giving concessions to senior citizens on TATKAL BOOKINGS t his they should also keep some quota for Reservation doing online .As most of the children are settled abroad in that scenario we can't book tickets as we are not so active
I have asked Railway to answer the querry but it seems they are not interested in answering my question.
ReplyDeleteMy question is why does Indian Railways do not give concessions to senior citizens in TATKAL .
I WILL BE Thankful to Railways
sr. citizens should be given the same treatment as in other cases . why should they be given step motherly treatment in tatkal tickets
ReplyDeletesenior citizen shall be given concessional rates as per existing rules.
ReplyDeleteConcessions should be extended to Sr. Citizens for Tatkal Tickets. Since Current Reservations is activated, Rly should refund at least base fare for return of tatkal tickets, as per normal schedule for return of tickets. More over all lower berths should be reserved for Sr. Citizens and elderly ladies. Tickets should not be issued to Sr. Citizens unless lower berths are available. In IRCTC option "Book only if atleast on lower berth is alloted", it should automatically reply as "no lower berth is available" if not available. As of now, IRCTC takes the money and then replies you as not available. It returns you the money after 7 days. our bank charges is deducted. IRCTC should be transparent in seat allocation and not fool all.
ReplyDeleteGood start of reforms in case if irctc. Still long ways to go in other areas of concern. For instance. Chart preparation -PNR status - ticket confirmation -cancellation-refund rules-TDR -resolution
ReplyDelete(Acknowledgement will be highly appreciated)
There are certain grammatical errors in the write-up about the new 'Tatkal' rules. In the second para : "Tatkal booking window opens.....one before ......." It should be "one DAY before..." Under "Here are 5 things.....", item 1: last line should read : according to Indian railways' website.
ReplyDeleteHope you will make these corrections.
IRCTC should have provision for Sr Citizen to allot lower berth only. They should have quota for that. In max cases inspite of booking 2-3 months before, seat allocations were given to Sr Citizen upper berth in AC-II. Journey was too lengthy and climbing all the time on upper berth was practically became difficult.
ReplyDeleteSpecial provision for Sr Citizen should be made for TATKAL booking by allocating lower berth. Besides this, in case of cancellation IRCTC may keep some amount but 70-80% should be refunded to Sr Citizen.
Thank you so much for giving me this news
