Electricity Amendment Bill 2021: After the passage of this bill, the electricity consumers of the country will get new strength as well as many companies will get into the business of power distribution, which will provide better services to the people.

Electricity Amendment Bill 2021:  If you have problems with the existing company providing electricity services or you are not happy with their facilities, then you will now have the right to change the electricity company and choose a new company as per your wish. It will work in the same way as if you are unhappy with the services of a telecom company, then port to another telecom company. Actually, the monsoon session is starting from Monday. In this, the responsibility of supplying to several companies in a region will be given, so that the consumers will have the option to choose the company of their choice.

BILL MAY BE INTRODUCED IN MONSOON SESSION

According to Power and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh, the government may introduce Electricity Amendment Bill 2021 in the monsoon session starting on Monday. If this happens, it will be a major reform in the field of power distribution, which will give a big power to the consumers. In January, a proposal for the Electricity Amendment Bill 2021 was issued for the approval of the cabinet. 

The Power Minister had said in an event that like electricity generation, we have proposed to delicense its distribution as well. A cabinet note was issued regarding this, which has been approved by all the ministries, but the Law Ministry has a question or two. He had said that it would soon be sent for cabinet approval and tried to get it passed by presenting it in the next session of Parliament. Let us tell you that the monsoon session can start from July 19 and go on till August 13. 

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF THIS BILL 

After the introduction of this bill, the way will open for private companies to enter the field of electricity distribution, because the need to take license will be eliminated, this will also increase competition. This will directly benefit the electricity consumers, as they will have many service providers to choose from. At present, only a few government and private companies dominate the power distribution sector. 

CUSTOMERS BENEFIT FROM HAVING MULTIPLE ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES 

Electricity consumers also have no other way than to choose one of these companies providing services in their area. After the introduction of the proposed bill, the existing distribution companies will continue their services, but other power distribution companies will also be able to do the business of power supply in the same area. In such a situation, consumers will have the option to choose from many power companies. 

IF THE POWER IS CUT THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY DAMAGES

In this bill, consumers have been made more powerful, if a company cuts electricity without informing, then it will have to pay compensation to the consumers. The power company will have to inform the consumer before cutting the power. A provision has been made to pay compensation even if there is a power cut beyond the specified time limit. 

NEW COMPANIES HAVE TO REGISTER 

Such companies who want to get into the business of electricity distribution, they have to comply with the eligibility conditions of the central government and register themselves with a reasonable commission before starting electricity distribution, the commission will also have to be registered by the company within 60 days. . The commission can also cancel the registration if the company does not meet the eligibility conditions.
