Telecom Department deactivate extra SIM: If you have also got many SIM cards allotted in your name, then this news is of your use. The Department of Telecom has asked to re-verify the SIM of customers having more than 9 connections across India and if these SIMs are not verified, then an order has been issued to disconnect them. In the cases of Jammu and Kashmir, North East and Assam, the SIM of the customers having more than 6 connections will be verified.

CUSTOMERS WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO CHOOSE

According to the order issued by the Telecom Department on December 7, subscribers will be given the option to choose which connection they want to continue and which they want to deactivate.

DoT in its order said, “If the data analysis of DoT finds that a person has more than 9 connections (6 in case of J&K, Northeast and Assam LSA) including all TSPs (Telecom Service Providers) , then the mobile connection will be verified again."

DECISION TAKEN TO STOP FRAUD

The Department of Telecommunications said that this step has been taken to prevent incidents of financial crime, automated calls and fraud.

WHAT IS THE ORDER

DoT has asked telecom operators to remove all flagged mobile connections from the database which are not in use as per the rules. According to the information, the outgoing (including data service) facility of the flagged connection will be closed within 30 days, the incoming call service will also be closed within 45 days.

If the customer surrenders any connection during verification, that connection will be disconnected and if the customer does not come for verification, it will be deactivated within 60 days. It will be calculated from 7th December.

According to the order, if the customer is on international roaming or is in a hospital due to physical disability, then he will be given an additional 30 days.
