An important change has been made in the process of making passport, which is going to be implemented from today i.e. 5th August. Under this, verification can be done through DigiLocker.

Passport Verification Process: A major change has been made in the passport application process for international travel. Applicants will now have to use the government platform DigiLocker to apply for a new passport. All documents have to be uploaded using DigiLocker. Once the documents are uploaded, applicants can make their passport application online through the official website passportindia.gov.in.

No need to carry a copy of the document

Information has been given by the Ministry of External Affairs that if the applicants use DigiLocker to upload their documents, then they will not be required to carry hard copies of any document during the application process. This step will also reduce the processing time and is expected to increase the quality of the passport application process.

Why was this rule brought

DigiLocker has been used in the passport application process to speed up the application process. Along with this, it has been implemented at Passport Seva Kendras and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK) in various areas to reduce the need for physical document verification.

What is DigiLocker?

DigiLocker is a digital wallet service provided by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information. Under this, users can safely collect all the documents issued by the government and can also access it when needed. Under DigiLocker, you can store and store driver’s license, vehicle registration certificate, educational marksheet and other documents.

Can keep everything from Aadhaar to passport

The Ministry has now also allowed the use of Aadhaar documents through DigiLocker for submitting online applications. Any type of certificate, PAN card, Aadhar card, passport and voter ID card can be safely stored on DigiLocker.

How to use DigiLocker?

To open a DigiLocker account, users will have to register with a mobile number and this number should already be linked to Aadhaar. While logging in to DigiLocker account, users will be sent a One-Time Passcode (OTP) to the linked mobile number. Whereas if you want to make any change in DigiLocker, then you will have to make changes in Aadhaar.
