FASTag: new rule from 1st jan, fastag mandatory for every vehicle

Earlier, his ministry has issued notifications about this in November.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announces that FASTag is being made mandatory for all vehicles in country from 1st January 2021

Fastag (FASTag) is going to be mandatory for all vehicles in the country from 1 January 2021. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said this. In a virtual event on Thursday, the minister confirmed that fastag will be mandatory for vehicles from 1 January 2021. Earlier, his ministry has issued notifications about this in November. Gadkari also said that people will not have to stay for payment at toll plazas due to fasting. The toll will be cut automatically, which will help in saving time, fuel.

The payment of toll at the toll plaza is done electronically through Fastag. It started in 2016. The ministry's November notification also stated that from January 1, 2021, Fastag will be mandatory for new vehicles as well as vehicles sold before December 1, 2017. According to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, Fastag has been made mandatory for registration of all new fourwheelers from 1 December 2017.

MANDATORY FOR VEHICLE FITNESS CERTIFICATE

With this, it has also been made mandatory that the renewal of the fitness certificate of a transport vehicle can be done only after the vehicle is fastened. Fastag has been made mandatory for national permit vehicles from 1 October 2019. The Ministry has also said that even taking the new third party insurance, valid fast tag will be mandatory. This will be done through an amendment to the insurance certificate, where details of Fastag's ID will be seen. This rule will be applicable from 1 April 2021.

HOW DOES FASTAG WORK?

Let me tell you that Fastag is an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI. It is an electronic toll collection technique. One is a radio frequency identification tag, which is mounted on the front glass of the vehicles. So that on passing through the toll plaza, the sensor installed there can read it. When the vehicle with the presence of Fastag passes through the toll plaza, the toll tax is automatically deducted from the prepaid or savings account associated with Fastag.

  1. WHY should I be forced to buy a FASTAG when I do not use the toll plaza and will never use it in the future also. This is pressurising the general public purchase something that is not needed to some. ANOTHER WAY TO FLEECE MONEY OUT because once the cost of Rs.200 is paid and then obliged to credit the account with another Rs.100, this Rs.300 is lost for me without any utility.

  3. I was told by the people in the toll booth that I have to maintain a minimum of Rs .200/-
in my Fastag A/c .Other wise they said it will not work.In fact when I had Rs.90/- in the account
it showed my account is black listed ,and I had to pay Rs.25/- cash .If this is true I feel it is not fare
to compel people to keep a minimum balance of Rs.200/-.Now since Fastag is going to be made mandatory this Rs.200/- balance issue should be dropped immediately. Hope the Govt will look into
this and take a positive action without delay
