What is the H-1B visa program?

The H-1B visa program allows US companies to recruit foreign professionals for certain positions. A high level of expertise and qualification is required to apply for this visa. This program is especially for people working in technology and other high-skilled industries.

According to USCIS data for 2024, there has been a huge decline in H-1B visa approvals in major US companies. However, Indians still have the highest number of professionals taking H-1B visas. But the number of visa approvals has decreased significantly in major organizations, especially in the technology industry.

Decrease in the number of visa approvals

Multinational company Amazon still maintains its position to issue H-1B visas. But the number of its approvals has also declined. In the year 2023, the company had more than 11,000 approvals which has come down to around 9,000 in 2024.

Similarly, major Indian technology companies like Infosys and TCS have also reduced the number of approvals significantly. These figures indicate a ban on visa approvals on a large scale.
