Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) is planning to increase electricity rates by 30 percent. If reports are to be believed, electricity rates may soon increase by 30 percent in UP. Power companies have sent a proposal to the Electricity Regulatory Commission for 2025-26. It shows a huge loss. A request has been made to the commission to compensate for this. If the commission approves it, then electricity rates may increase by up to 30 percent.
According to the report, power companies have estimated a reduction of Rs 19,600 crore from the current electricity rate in view of the increasing expenditure. To compensate for the loss worked out on the basis of actual income and expenditure, electric companies want a record 30 percent increase in the current electricity rates. The Regulatory Commission has demanded that the increase in rates should be considered in view of the condition of the Power Corporation.
Officials claimed that there has been no increase in electricity rates in UP for the last five years. Due to this, the revenue deficit has increased by 12.4 percent. UPPCL has presented the figures to the Electricity Regulatory Commission and said that it cannot bear any more losses.
He said that till now the electricity rates are being fixed on the basis of the revenue gap arising from the expenditure and earnings of the power companies. But the power companies say that in reality 100 percent of the electricity bills are never recovered.
