Traffic Challan New Rule: Uttar Pradesh Transport Department seems to be getting more strict about traffic rules. If you are in Uttar Pradesh and have been issued a challan while driving, then deposit it immediately. Because Uttar Pradesh Transport Department is now preparing to impose a hefty penalty on outstanding challans. For this, the department has set a time limit of 1 month.


That is, in UP, it will be mandatory to deposit the challan within one month of its issuance, otherwise there is a provision to impose a late fee after that. There is absolutely no need to delay in following this rule. Because this new rule has been implemented now. Therefore, get your vehicle’s challans settled in time.

Recovery campaign has started

According to Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh, a new system of challan recovery has been implemented from August 10. This late fee can be from 5 to 10 percent of the challan amount. That is, if a challan of Rs 1,000 is issued, then a late fine of Rs 50 to Rs 100 can be imposed on it.

SMS is being sent to vehicle owners

According to the department, now e-challan notice is being sent directly to the mobile of vehicle owners through WhatsApp chatbot (8005441222). The department says that in the first phase, information about challans from January 2024 to July 2025 will be sent. After this, in the second phase, information about pending challans of the year 2022 and 2023 will also be sent. Apart from this, vehicle owners can check their challan through chatbot.

How can you pay the challan?

The Uttar Pradesh government has started the e-Challan system for the convenience of the citizens. With its help, vehicle owners can pay the challan sitting at home and they do not need to visit any office. For this, you can visit the official website of the Transport Department (echallan.parivahan.gov.in) and check your challan and if any challan has been issued, then you can immediately pay it online.

How to submit the challan from the website of the Transport Department

  • First of all go to the website echallan.parivahan.gov.in.
  • Click on ‘Check Challan Status’. Here you will get three options.
  • By challan number, by vehicle number, by driving license number.
  • Choose the correct option and enter the information asked.
  • All the challans related to your vehicle will be visible on the screen.
  • Click on “Pay Now” in front of the challan you want to pay.
  • Pay through net banking, debit/credit card or UPI.
  • If the payment is successful, you will get an online receipt, download it.
