Financially rich people are also taking advantage of the scheme
According to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, around 80 crore people across the country are taking advantage of the National Food Security Act. There are many people among them who are financially well off. Keeping this in mind, the Ministry of Public Distribution has decided to change the standards.
Know - what is the reason for making the change
In this regard, according to Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, meetings are being held with the states for the last six months regarding the change in standards. New standards are being prepared for the eligible people by incorporating the suggestions given by the states.
These standards will be finalized this month. After the implementation of the new standard, only eligible persons will get the benefit. The ineligible people will not get the benefit of this. This change is being made keeping in mind the needy.
One nation one ration card scheme implemented in 32 states of the country
So far, the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' scheme of the department has been implemented in 32 states and union territories till December 2020. About 69 crore beneficiaries i.e. percentage of the population covered under NFSA are taking advantage of this scheme. Every month about 1.5 crore people are taking advantage of this by moving from one place to another.
