Cold Wave Alert: IMD issues cold wave alert and dense fog warning for several states on December 11
Cold Wave Alert: The International Monetary Fund (IMD) has issued a cold wave warning for several states for December 11. A yellow alert has been issued for cold wave conditions in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Odisha. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Uttar Pradesh due to the possibility of dense fog.
Cold Wave Alert: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave warning for several states for December 11. A yellow alert has been issued for cold wave in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka and Odisha. While in view of the possibility of dense fog in Uttar Pradesh, the IMD has issued an orange alert.
In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in Assam, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha and Uttarakhand. The IMD has urged citizens to drive slowly, use low beam and fog lights during the morning hours of December 11.
The Meteorological Department stated in its press release that a trough of westerly winds located north of 86°E longitude and 23°N latitude is changing atmospheric conditions. According to the IMD, “Cold wave conditions are very likely to persist over central and adjoining eastern and northern peninsular India till December 13, 2025.”
Predicting dense fog in the northern and northeastern states, the IMD stated that a new weak western disturbance may affect the western Himalayan region from December 13, 2025.
In its weather bulletin issued on December 10, the Meteorological Department stated, “Cold wave conditions are very likely to occur at isolated places over central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, north interior Karnataka, and north interior Odisha during December 11-13; cold wave conditions are likely over western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh on December 11 and 12.”
The weather agency said minimum temperatures in Maharashtra are likely to fall gradually by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, followed by a rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. Below normal minimum temperatures were recorded at several places, including Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, some places in Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Gujarat, with the mercury dropping by 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Karnataka districts on yellow alert: Belagavi, Bagalkot, Bidar, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadagiri, and Dharwad.
Telangana districts on orange alert: Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy.
Telangana districts on yellow alert: Bokothagudem, Hanumakonda, Hyderabad, Jagitial, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalpalle, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, and Mulugu.
Maharashtra districts on yellow alert: Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Nashik Ghats, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Pune Ghats, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Gondia.
Districts in Madhya Pradesh on yellow alert: Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Indore, and Shajapur.
Districts in Odisha on yellow alert: Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal.
