There’s news of great relief for electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh. The Yogi government’s ambitious “Electricity Bill Relief Scheme 2025” for settling outstanding electricity bills has come into effect across the state today, December 1, 2025.
Electricity Bill Waiver: A major relief for electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh has begun today. The state government and UPPCL have implemented the Electricity Bill Waiver/Relief Scheme, effective December 1, 2025. The scheme aims to provide relief to domestic and small commercial consumers burdened by long-standing outstanding electricity bills. This is the first time the government has announced such a significant waiver, which is expected to benefit millions of consumers.
Under this relief scheme, consumers will receive a 100% waiver of interest and surcharge on outstanding electricity bills. Additionally, a 25% discount will also be provided on the principal (the actual outstanding amount). This benefit is specifically for consumers with long-standing bills, disconnected connections, or those who have been penalized for power theft. All such consumers will be able to legally reactivate their connections under the scheme.
The scheme will operate in three phases, with the maximum benefit available in the first phase.
Phase 1: December 1 to 31, 2025 – 25% discount on principal
Phase 2: January 1 to 31, 2026 – 20% discount on principal
Phase 3: February 1 to 28, 2026 – 15% discount on principal
How to avail the benefits
To avail the scheme, consumers must register online on the UPPCL website or at the nearest electricity office or convenience center. Upon depositing the prescribed fee at the time of registration, the consumer’s outstanding dues will be calculated at the new rates, with interest completely waived. Consumers will then be given the option to pay the bill in a lump sum or in easy installments.
Effective until February 28, 2026
This scheme will be effective from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026. The government believes that this scheme will provide significant relief to the average consumer and will also accelerate the department’s revenue collection. The Electricity Department states that consumers who have defaulted on their dues or resorted to power theft now have an easy opportunity to regularize their connections.
