To Avail Of MJPJAY, Link Ration Card With Aadhaar

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has issued a directive requiring white ration card holders (any citizen above the poverty line) to link their cards with Aadhaar to benefit from the upgraded Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) scheme. The recent amendment to the scheme extends coverage to all state residents, regardless of income, provided they have a valid ration card and domicile certificate.

Effective July 1, the MJPJAY scheme will offer coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family. Previously, the scheme was limited to families with Antyodaya Anna Yojana, Annapurna, yellow and orange ration cards (annual income of up to Rs 1 lakh). Additionally, only white ration card holder farmer families from 14 agriculturally distressed districts, including Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Hingoli, Latur and Nanded, could access the scheme. From July, the scheme will be available to residents from all 36 districts.

The announcement has generated numerous inquiries about the application process. The public health department stated that white ration card holder families are now included in the beneficiary category of the revamped MJPJAY scheme. To avail of the benefits though, families must link their ration cards with Aadhaar. The new scheme will have 1,900 empanelled hospitals, an increase from the current pool of 900 hospitals. The empanelment of these hospitals is ongoing.

Vinod Bondre, deputy CEO of the State Health Assurance Society (SHAS), which implements MJPJAY, explained that individuals can complete the linking process through the department of food and civil supplies. “Linking ration card with Aadhaar is necessary to generate the Ayushman card ID, which is used to access the scheme,” he said. But there is no online facility for this process as of now. So individuals will be required to visit the office of food and civil supplies in person.

The state has recently finalized the tender process, selecting United India Assurance as the insurance provider once again. For an estimated 12.34 crore families, the state will pay a premium of Rs 1,300 per family. Besides increasing the coverage for each family, the new version expands the number of medical procedures from 996 to 1,356.
