Senior citizens Free treatment: Senior citizens need Aadhaar card for free health insurance, treatment will be free
The Government of India has taken a big step towards making health services easier and has expanded the scope of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Now senior citizens aged 70 years and above can join this scheme irrespective of their income.
The Government of India has taken a big step towards making health services easier and has expanded the scope of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Now senior citizens aged 70 years and above can join this scheme irrespective of their income. The aim of this initiative is to benefit about 4.5 crore families of the country. With this, about 6 crore senior citizens will get health insurance cover of ₹ 5 lakh per family.
How to apply online?
Senior citizens aged 70 years and above can apply online for Ayushman card. For this, the government has launched a special portal and Ayushman app (available on Google Play Store).

Aadhaar Card
Mobile Number
Email ID
Process to apply on the portal
Visit the portal: Visit the official website of National Health Authority (NHA).
Login: Enter mobile number, fill captcha and verify with OTP.
Click on banner: Click on the banner given for 70+ age group.
Fill in the details: Enter state, district and Aadhaar number.
Complete eKYC process: Complete the KYC process using Aadhaar OTP and upload recent photo.
Download card: You can download the card within 15 minutes of the application being approved.
Apply via mobile app:
Download app: Download the Ayushman app from Google Play Store.
Login: Login using mobile number and OTP.
Fill details: Fill in Aadhaar details and declaration form.
Upload photo: Upload recent photo.
Submit application: Enter family members’ details and complete the eKYC process.
Download card: The card can be downloaded immediately after registration.
Key benefits of the scheme:
Special Ayushman Card:
Senior citizens will get a separate and special card under this scheme.
Top-up cover:
Senior citizens of families already enrolled in AB PM-JAY will get an additional top-up of ₹5 lakh every year, which will not have to be shared with other family members.
Family cover:
If senior citizens are not already registered in the scheme, they will get an annual cover of ₹5 lakh on a family basis.
Option with other schemes:
Senior citizens who are covered under CGHS, ECHS or other schemes can either continue with the same scheme or avail the benefits of AB PM-JAY scheme.
Scheme also for private insurance holders:
Senior citizens covered under private insurance scheme or Employees State Insurance Scheme can also avail the benefits of this scheme.
