Heavy Rains: There will be heavy rain today and tomorrow; Weather department issued alert
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy, very heavy and extremely heavy rains at one or two places in Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur divisions on Monday. There may be heavy rains at some places in Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur divisions as well.
Rainfall Alert: Monsoon is active in different parts of the country and it is raining heavily. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that this series of rains is going to continue. Monsoon trough is present south of its normal position. Depression formed in the coastal areas of West Bengal turned into a low pressure area in the northwestern part of Madhya Pradesh. It is likely to weaken in the next few hours. Its division will cause heavy rains in other areas including Rajasthan in north-west India. Heavy to very heavy rains may occur in the western Himalayan regions from 29 to 31 July. Rain is likely at isolated places in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh till August 2.
In view of heavy rains in the coming days in Rajasthan, many districts have declared school holidays on 28-29 July. District Magistrates of Baran, Anta, Banswara, Kota, Dungarpur, Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Tonk and Chittorgarh districts have issued orders for school holidays. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains were recorded at many places including Pali, Ajmer, Tonk, Baran on Sunday. There is also a possibility of very heavy rains at some places in Kota, Udaipur divisions. According to the department, there is a possibility of heavy, very heavy and extremely heavy rains at one or two places in Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur divisions on Monday. There may also be heavy rains at some places in Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur divisions.
Floods wreak havoc in Odisha, 11 thousand people affected
More than 11,000 people in 6 districts have been affected by floods in Odisha. Over 1,000 people have been evacuated from affected areas of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts, an official said. Special Relief Commissioner D.K. Singh said the situation was caused by flooding of Subarnarekha, Vaitarni and Jalka rivers due to heavy rains. Five teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, one NDRF team and 26 fire service teams have been deployed in Balasore district. One ODRAF team and 23 fire service teams have been deployed in Mayurbhanj district. A total of 106 rescue boats have also been deployed in these districts for rescue and relief operations. The water level of all major rivers except Subarnarekha is receding.
Water level of rivers and dams increased in Kerala
Due to heavy rains and strong winds in various parts of Kerala on Sunday, normal life was affected. The water level of many rivers and dams increased. A large number of houses were damaged due to uprooting of trees and power supply was disrupted in many areas. Orange alert was issued in three districts of the state – Idukki, Kannur and Kasargod. Yellow alert was issued for 6 other districts. Due to heavy rains and strong winds in the state in the last few days, minor landslides and uprooting of trees have occurred in various parts. People living on the banks of rivers have been warned to remain alert and be ready to move to safer places if necessary. Due to bad weather and strong winds, the IMD has issued an advisory to fishermen not to carry out fishing activities on the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast till July 29 and on the Karnataka coast till July 31.
