Heavy Rain Alert: The weather has begun to turn dangerous in various parts of the country. Several cyclonic circulations are active in the upper troposphere, and a new Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan region from the night of January 15, 2026. Additionally, a subtropical westerly jet stream, flowing at a speed of 100 knots at an altitude of 12.6 kilometers over North India, is making the weather even more severe.

A cyclonic circulation persists in the lower tropospheric region over the Gulf of Mannar and surrounding areas. A cyclonic circulation in the form of a western disturbance is also active over Himachal Pradesh and surrounding areas. A cyclonic circulation is also present over northwest Uttar Pradesh. Light to moderate rain and snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir (Kashmir News), Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand between January 16 and 19. Rainfall is also possible in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh on January 18 and 19. On January 13, isolated rain and thundershowers are expected in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The threat of dense fog is also rapidly increasing. Dense to very dense fog is expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi (Delhi NCR Weather Update), and Punjab during the morning hours until January 15th, and this fog may persist at various locations until January 20th. Dense fog will persist in western Uttar Pradesh until January 19th, and at isolated locations on January 20th. The threat of cold and a cold wave is even more frightening. Cold day conditions are expected in Uttarakhand on January 13th and 14th, and in western Uttar Pradesh on January 13th. On January 14th and 15th, there is a warning of cold wave to severe cold wave in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha are also facing the threat of cold wave on various dates. A warning of ground frost has also been issued for Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh on January 13th and 14th.

Sea conditions are even more dangerous. Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into the Gulf of Mannar and parts of the Comorin region in the Bay of Bengal between January 13 and 18, 2026. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain unchanged over northwest India for the next 48 hours, with a possible increase of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius thereafter.
