The Meteorological Department estimates that monsoon may remain active in many areas in the coming days. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rains may occur at some places in South Peninsular India from 12 to 16 June. At the same time, extremely heavy rains are expected at some places in Konkan and Goa on 13 and 14 June. According to the IMD, the conditions are fully favorable for the monsoon to advance to some more parts of central and adjoining eastern India around June 14.

Weather systems across the country

Heavy to very heavy rains are expected once again in many states of the country. According to a report by Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is formed over northwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas. At the same time, a trough line is also extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to Telangana crossing Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Another western disturbance is active as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerly winds north of 25 degrees north latitude around 60 degrees east longitude at an altitude of 5.8 kilometers. A cyclonic circulation remains at sea level around southeast and east-central Bay of Bengal. Due to these seasonal activities, heavy rains may occur in many areas in the coming days. Heat is expected to increase in many areas.

Heavy to very heavy rains may occur in Kerala

The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Kerala in the coming days. On Tuesday, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Thursday in two districts of the state, for Friday in four districts and for Saturday in nine districts. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday in nine districts of the state, for Thursday in eight districts, for Friday in seven districts and for Saturday in five districts. The IMD has also warned of strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph at some places in the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to the Meteorological Department, the wind speed is expected to increase to 50 to 60 kmph by Saturday.

Heavy rain warning in South Peninsular India

  • According to the Meteorological Department, rain is likely at most places in Kerala and Mahe, Karnataka, Lakshadweep during the next 7 days. Very heavy rains are possible in many areas. Strong winds will also blow at many places.
  • Strong winds with a speed of 50 to 60 kmph are likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema during June 10 to 12, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep on June 14.
  • Heavy rains are likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during June 10 to 12, Karnataka on June 10 and 11, Lakshadweep on June 13 and 14, Rayalaseema and Telangana on June 11 and 12.
  • Very heavy rains are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during June 12 to 16. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely over coastal Karnataka on June 16, over Kerala and Mahe during June 14 to 16.

Possibility of thunderstorms and rain in western India

  • According to the IMD, light to moderate rains along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with speeds of 30 to 50 kmph are likely at some places over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa on June 10 and 11.
  • Stormy winds are likely at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa during June 12 to 14.
  • Heavy rains are likely at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra on June 10 and 11, Marathwada during June 11 to 14, Konkan and Goa during June 12 to 16, very heavy rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra and extremely heavy rains over Konkan and Goa on June 13 and 14.

Heavy rain likely over East and Central India

  • Light to moderate rain is likely to continue at some places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 7 days. Light to moderate rain is likely at some places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during 10th to 12th June with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph.
  • Thunderstorms are likely at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim during 11th to 14th June, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar during 13th to 16th June and Vidarbha on 11th and 12th June, Chhattisgarh during 11th to 14th June, Bihar on 12th and 13th June.
  • Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand during 12th to 16th June.

Weather of North-East India

  • The Meteorological Department has forecast that light to moderate rain is likely to continue at some places in Northeast India during the next 7 days. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during June 11 to 16, heavy rain is likely in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during June 10 to 16.
  • On June 10 and 11, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph.
