Free LPG Cylinder: 25 lakh women will get free LPG connections, government has approved
Hardeep Singh Puri said that the Government of India will spend Rs 2,050 on each connection, so that the beneficiaries can get free LPG cylinder along with gas stove and regulator etc. for free.
Free LPG Cylinder: The central government will expand the Ujjwala scheme and issue free LPG connections to 25 lakh women. In a major step towards women empowerment, the government has approved the release of 25 lakh new LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the financial year 2025-26. “On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all the mothers and sisters associated with the Ujjwala family. This step will not only bring them joy on this auspicious occasion but also strengthen our resolve towards women empowerment,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a social media post.
The number of Ujjwala family members will reach 10.60 crore. Regarding the release of 2.5 million new LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “With the beginning of Navratri, the decision to provide 2.5 million deposit-free cooking gas connections under the Ujjwala Yojana is another testimony to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to respecting women on par with Goddess Durga. This further strengthens our resolve to respect and empower mothers and sisters.” In a post on X, Puri stated that with these 2.5 million new connections, the number of Ujjwala family members across the country will increase to 10.60 crore.

Hardeep Singh Puri stated that the Government of India will spend ₹2,050 on each connection, ensuring that beneficiaries receive a free LPG cylinder, along with a gas stove and regulator. The Union Minister said, “The Ujjwala Yojana is not just a scheme, but has become the torch of a major revolution in the country, whose flame has reached every corner of the country, even remote areas. Currently, with the Modi government’s ₹300 subsidy, the cylinders of over 103.3 million Ujjwala families are refilled for just ₹553. This price is lower than that of LPG-producing countries worldwide.”
