Weather Update 17 September: The monsoon is retreating from across the country, but heavy rain is forecast in many states as it departs. The Meteorological Department said on Wednesday that today (September 17) there will be heavy to very heavy rain in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh (five states).

In eastern and central India, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Jharkhand, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh on September 17; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on September 17-19; Bihar from September 17-20; and Andaman and Nicobar Islands from September 18-21. Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on September 17. Thunderstorms and strong winds are likely over eastern India for the next five to six days.

In Northeast India, heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh from September 17-19, in Assam and Meghalaya from September 17-23, and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from September 19-23. In Northwest India, heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Uttarakhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh on September 17 and 18, and in northwest Uttar Pradesh on September 17.

Partly Cloudy Sky Expected in Delhi

Partly cloudy skies are expected throughout the day in the national capital on Wednesday. The minimum temperature here was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees above the season’s normal temperature, the Meteorological Department said. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity level was recorded at 82 percent at 8:30 am. The Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 am was 107, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category.
