Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Railway Minister announces the date of operation of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
The Vande Bharat sleeper train is ready for launch, with Ashwini Vaishnav stating that both trains will begin operating simultaneously. The New Delhi-Patna route is under discussion, and new projects are underway in Punjab and Haryana.
New Delhi. The wait for passengers across the country is soon over, as the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is now ready for launch. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav stated on Tuesday that Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will begin operating only after the second train is ready for regular service. Currently, one train has completed thorough trials and testing at the Shakur Basti Coaching Depot.
The minister stated that construction of the second train is progressing rapidly and is expected to be ready by October 15, 2025. Vaishnav clarified that both trains will be launched simultaneously to ensure uninterrupted service. This is why the ministry is awaiting the arrival of the second rake.
Discussion on Patna route intensifies
Speculation is rife that the train could run between New Delhi and Patna. This is believed to be due to the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for the end of the year. However, an official route announcement has not yet been made.
New Projects in Punjab and Haryana
Railway Minister Vaishnav and Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu told the media that the Rajpura-Mohali rail line in Punjab will provide the shortest route to Chandigarh. This line will reduce the distance by 66 kilometers and ease pressure on the Rajpura-Ambala route. Additionally, a proposal has been made to run the Vande Bharat Express between Delhi and Firozpur Cantt. This train will cover the 486-kilometer distance in 6 hours and 40 minutes.
Station Redevelopment and Timely Trains
According to the Railway Ministry, 30 stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Project. Furthermore, 29 railway divisions, including Malda, Nagpur, Mysore, Sealdah, and Thiruvananthapuram, have achieved 90 percent punctuality. Vaishnav said that the Prime Minister will be requested to approve the Delhi-Ferozepur Vande Bharat train. He also stated that nine major railway projects have been completed since 2014, and work on seven more is ongoing.
