LPG Prices Rise: The joint US-Israeli attack on Iran has sparked a new global crisis. India is also being affected by this conflict. Iran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, creating a new problem in the energy sector. If this war continues for a long time, a major LPG shortage could arise within the country. Furthermore, new alternatives will have to be found for the supply of petrol and diesel.

According to Bloomberg report, European gas prices have increased by 50 percent.

Will LPG prices rise?

The biggest impact of the Iran-US war will be on LPG. India imports 80 to 85 percent of its total LPG supply from Arab countries. All of this comes through the Strait of Hormuz. Consequently, India faces a significant LPG shortage. Unlike crude oil, India does not have large reserves of LPG. Therefore, to avoid any LPG problems, it is essential that supplies are timely.

LNG supplies are also under threat.

Like LPG, there are no significant reserves for LNG. Currently, the country imports 60 percent of its LNG needs through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, India will soon have to find new alternatives for LPG and LNG.

Qatar halts LNG production

Following the Iranian drone attack, Qatar has halted production at the world’s largest LNG export center. Currently, Qatar is the world’s fifth-largest producer of LNG. Therefore, a drop in production will adversely impact supply.

Adequate reserves for petrol and diesel

India does not need to worry immediately about petrol and diesel supplies. Currently, the country has a reserve of 70 to 80 days. Last month, India purchased a significant amount of crude oil from Saudi Arabia. However, given the new situation arising from the Iran war, India may prioritize the United States, Russia, and other countries. Crude oil prices are expected to rise due to the Iran-US war. In the near future, crude oil prices could reach $100 per barrel.

The Ministry has called a hasty meeting.

The government is showing considerable activity on this issue. On Monday, the Petroleum Department hastily convened a large meeting. The government is assessing the situation and exploring new options.
