This will also affect the pockets of passengers. The Railways will implement these new rules in stages between April 1 and April 15, 2026.

According to the new rules, if you cancel your ticket within 72 hours, you will receive the maximum refund, with only a minimum charge deducted. However, if you cancel your ticket between 72 and 24 hours, approximately 25% of the fare will be deducted. Additionally, a minimum fee will also apply.

When will a refund not be available?

If the ticket is cancelled between 24 and 8 hours before the train’s departure, 50% of the fare will be deducted. Previously, the rule was that if a ticket was cancelled within 4 hours of the train’s departure, no refund would be given. Now, even if the ticket is cancelled within 8 hours, a refund will not be given.
