Prayagraj Mahakumbh: There is news of relief for the devotees planning to go for bathing in the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu has announced a 50 percent reduction in airfare for passengers traveling to Prayagraj. This new fare structure has come into effect from today. Ram Mohan Naidu said this in an interview to news channel NDTV.
The government had already directed the airlines to reduce ticket prices. For this, three meetings were also held with them. In these, the implementation of fare reduction was discussed. The airlines were reminded that a grand religious event like Kumbh Mela takes place once in 140 years and they should revise their fares keeping in mind this importance.
The government also ensured that the airlines do not suffer any financial loss due to the fare reduction. Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had directed the airlines to rationalize the fares of flights to Prayagraj. On January 23, DGCA officials had a meeting with them.
In January, the DGCA approved additional 81 flights to meet the increased demand. Airlines are now operating more flights than before. The number of flights to and from Prayagraj has increased to 132. However, with these additional flights, airfares have also seen a huge increase, especially on the Delhi-Prayagraj route, the fare has increased by 21 times.

A temporary city has been built in the Kumbh Mela area. It is spread over about 4,000 hectares i.e. 9,990 acres. Its size is equal to the area of about 7,500 football fields. 1,50,000 tents and almost the same number of toilets have been constructed here, so that lakhs of devotees can get convenience.
