Heavy Rain Alert: IMD issues heavy rain alert in more than 20 states, monsoon activated due to low pressure system

 India Heavy Rain Alert: The pace of south-west monsoon has increased across the country. According to IMD, monsoon has arrived in some more parts of Gujarat, all the remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh and some more areas of Rajasthan and Haryana on July 3.

According to the latest weather bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoon has arrived in some more parts of Gujarat, all the remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh and some more areas of Rajasthan and Haryana on July 3. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to extremely heavy rains and strong thunderstorms during the next 4-5 days in more than 20 states of the country. A low pressure area has formed in the north-west of the Bay of Bengal. Due to this effect, monsoon is expected to remain in a very active phase in the central parts of the country.

Many big weather systems became active

According to meteorologists, several weather systems are active simultaneously in the country at present. A low pressure area lies over north-west Bay of Bengal. It is likely to strengthen further during the next 2 days. In the lower troposphere level, the seasonal trough is passing from northwest Rajasthan to the center of this low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. A shear zone exists in the middle troposphere levels along about 21°N latitude. An off-shore trough is active over the sea level from Maharashtra to Karnataka coast. A Western Disturbance is active in the form of a trough in the north. An upper air cyclonic circulation is over western Rajasthan and its adjoining areas.

North-West India: Rain and thunderstorm in these states including Delhi-UP

The Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rain and thunderstorm for the states of North-West India-

Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand: Widespread to very widespread rainfall is likely over these areas during July 3 to 9. Heavy rain may occur in Jammu and Kashmir on July 3 and strong winds with speed of 40-50 km per hour between July 3-9. There is an alert of heavy rain and lightning in Uttarakhand during July 3-9.

Himachal Pradesh: There will be widespread rainfall here on July 3 and again during July 5-9. Sporadic rain is expected on July 4. Very heavy rain may occur at isolated places in the state on July 6 and 7.

Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab: These states will receive widespread rainfall during July 6 to 8. Scattered rains are expected on July 3-5 and July 9 and dusty winds with speed of 40-50 kmph and gale during the entire week (July 3-9). An alert of heavy rain has been issued between 6-9 July.

Uttar Pradesh: Western UP will see widespread rainfall between July 3 and July 8-9 while scattered rainfall is expected on July 4-7. There will be widespread rain over East UP during July 7-9 and scattered rain during July 3-6. Heavy rain is also expected in eastern UP during July 7-9.

Rajasthan: There will be widespread rainfall over East Rajasthan during July 3-9. There is a possibility of very heavy rain between 3-7 July and heavy rain on 8-9 July. There will be scattered rain over Western Rajasthan from July 3-9 but there is a special alert for intense thunderstorms and dust storm with speed of 50-60 kmph (gusts up to 70 kmph) on July 3.

Central India: Extremely heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

Monsoon will be most active in Central India due to the low pressure area-

Madhya Pradesh: Widespread to very widespread rainfall will be observed over East and West Madhya Pradesh during July 3 to 9. There is a possibility of strong winds at a speed of 30-40 km per hour and lightning in both parts during July 3 to 7. There is a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Western Madhya Pradesh on July 3 and 4 while very heavy rainfall is possible between July 5-9. Very heavy rainfall is expected over East Madhya Pradesh during July 3-6 and heavy rainfall on July 7-9.

Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha: Chhattisgarh will see very heavy rain on July 3 and heavy rain on July 4-8. Vidarbha has been warned of very heavy rainfall during 3-5 July and heavy rainfall on 6-7 July.

Eastern and North-East India: Warning of extremely heavy rain in Odisha

Odisha: There will be widespread rainfall during July 3 to 8. The Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rain in parts of Odisha on July 3 and 4 while heavy rain will continue till July 5-7.

West Bengal and Sikkim: There will be widespread rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from July 3-9. The Sub-Himalayan region will see strong winds during July 3-6 and heavy rains during July 7-9. Very heavy rain is expected in Gangetic West Bengal on July 5.

Jharkhand and Bihar: Jharkhand will see moderate to intense lightning activity on July 3-4 and heavy rainfall during July 5-7. Scattered rain is expected in Bihar during July 3-9 and heavy rain between July 5-7.

North-East States: Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will receive heavy rainfall between July 3-7 with widespread rainfall during July 3-9. There is also an alert of widespread rain and heavy rain in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh on July 7.

Western India: Heavy rain in Konkan, Goa and Gujarat

West coasts to witness heavy monsoon activities due to off-shore trough:

Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra: Widespread rainfall will continue over these areas during July 3 to 9. There is a strong possibility of extremely heavy rain in Konkan and Central Maharashtra areas during July 3 to 6.

Gujarat region, Saurashtra and Kutch: Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch will receive widespread rainfall during July 3-6. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over South Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch on July 3 and 4. There will be an alert of very heavy rain in Gujarat region on 5-6 July and in Saurashtra-Kutch on 7-8 July.

South Peninsular India: Heavy alert in coastal Karnataka and Kerala

Coastal Karnataka and Kerala: These states as well as Lakshadweep will receive widespread rainfall during July 3-9. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Coastal Karnataka between July 3-7 and over Kerala on July 3. There is an alert of very heavy rain over South Interior Karnataka during 5-7 July.

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: Very heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Telangana on 4-5 July and gusty winds accompanied by heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh on 3-4 July.

Special warning for fishermen

In view of the sensitivity of the weather and strong waves in the sea, the Meteorological Department has strictly advised fishermen not to venture into the following areas:

Arabian Sea: There will be a ban on the movement of fishermen along the Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and Karnataka coasts as well as the east-central and north-eastern Arabian Sea, Somalia and Oman coasts till July 8. It is advisable not to enter the sea in Kerala coast and Lakshadweep area from July 3 to 5.

Bay of Bengal: Fishermen have been advised not to venture into Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, North Andhra Pradesh coasts, Andaman Sea and Central and South Bay of Bengal till July 7.
