IMD Alert: These 20+ states are at risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rain expected until July 14.
India Weather Bulletin: According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), within the next 2 to 3 days, the monsoon will become active across the country covering the remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. Alert of heavy rain and storm has been issued till July 14 in more than 20 states of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
India Weather Bulletin: South-west monsoon is advancing at its full speed across the country. According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is currently passing through Barmer, Jodhpur, Rajgarh (Churu district) and Bathinda. Meteorologists predict that within the next 2 to 3 days, the monsoon will become active over the entire country covering the North Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.
Due to this activity of monsoon, the Meteorological Department has issued a widespread alert of heavy rains and thunderstorms till July 14 in more than 20 states of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
Red alert of extremely heavy rain in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, stormy clouds can be seen in some states today. Extremely heavy rainfall including torrential rain can be recorded at these places:-
Western Madhya Pradesh (8 July)
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim (8 July)
Assam and Meghalaya (8 July)
Konkan and Goa (8 July)
Central Maharashtra (8 July)

North-West India: Stormy winds at a speed of 70 km in UP
Uttar Pradesh: There will be widespread rainfall over western Uttar Pradesh during July 8 to 10. There is an alert of severe thunderstorm with speed of 50-60 kmph (gusts up to 70 kmph) and lightning on July 8. Along with this, there will be very heavy rain on 8-9 July and heavy rain on 10-11 July. Widespread rainfall is expected in eastern Uttar Pradesh from July 8 to 13. There may be very heavy rain between July 10 and 12 and heavy rain on July 8-9 and 13.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh: Continuous widespread rainfall will continue over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh from July 8 to 14. There is a possibility of very heavy rain in Uttarakhand on July 10 while heavy rain is possible during July 8-9 and 11-14. Heavy rain may be recorded in Himachal from July 8 to 14.
Delhi, Haryana and Punjab: Heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab between July 8 and 12. There will be widespread rainfall in Punjab on July 9 and Delhi-Haryana on July 8-10.
Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will see widespread rainfall and wind speed of 40-50 kmph from July 8 to 12. There will be very heavy rain over eastern parts of Rajasthan on July 8-9 and heavy rain on July 10. Heavy rain is expected in Western Rajasthan on July 8 and strong winds on July 8-9.
Central India: Torrential disaster in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh: After extremely heavy rain on July 8, there is an alert of very heavy rain on July 9 and heavy rain on July 10 in Western Madhya Pradesh. There will be widespread rain in East Madhya Pradesh from July 8 to 11. There is a possibility of very heavy rain between July 8 and 10 and heavy rain on July 11-12.
Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha: Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls is expected over Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha during July 13-14.
Eastern India: Very heavy rain and lightning warning in Bihar
Bihar: Widespread rainfall is expected in Bihar on July 8 and again on July 10-11. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of very heavy rain in different parts of the state during July 8 to 10 and heavy rain on July 11-12. Along with this, intense lightning activity can be seen in the state on July 9 and 10.
Jharkhand and West Bengal: There is a warning of heavy rain in Jharkhand on 8 and 12 July and strong winds from 8-12 July. Heavy rain is likely over Gangetic West Bengal on July 9-10 and very heavy rain over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on July 9.
Northeast India: Red alert in Assam and Meghalaya
Assam and Meghalaya: Extremely heavy rainfall on 8th July followed by very heavy falls on 9th July and isolated heavy falls during 10-14th July.
Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura: Arunachal Pradesh will see very heavy rainfall on 8-9 July and isolated heavy rainfall on 10-14 July. There is an alert of very heavy rain in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on July 8 and continuous heavy rain from July 9 to 14.
Western India: Heavy rain in Konkan and Goa
Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra: After extremely heavy rainfall on 8 July, heavy rainfall activity will continue over these areas on 9 July.
Gujarat region: Very heavy rain is likely over Gujarat region on July 8 and heavy rain on July 9. Also, during July 8-9, gusty winds can blow at a speed of 40-50 km per hour.
South Peninsular India: Thunderstorm alert in southern states
Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep: Very heavy rain is expected over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe and South Interior Karnataka on July 8 and heavy rain on July 9. Apart from this, on July 8, there has been a warning of thunderstorms with speed of 50-60 kmph (gusts up to 70 kmph) in all parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Telangana.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal: There will be heavy rain on 8-9 July and squall winds with a speed of 50-60 km per hour are expected during 8-10 July.
Safety Alert: In view of intense lightning activity, thunderstorms (speed up to 70 km per hour) and extremely heavy rainfall, the Meteorological Department has issued strict instructions to people to stay indoors and not take shelter under trees or weak structures in case of thunderstorms.
