If you frequently travel by train and use the IRCTC website to book your tickets, there’s an important update for you. To provide a better experience for railway passengers, a new and upgraded IRCTC website is launching tomorrow, July 15th. The new website will offer a better experience, speed up ticket booking, reduce unnecessary CAPTCHA hassles, and offer several new features. Passengers booking Tatkal tickets are expected to benefit the most. So, let’s explore the special features the new IRCTC website offers. Let’s explore the details.

More tickets can be booked simultaneously

The biggest change in the new IRCTC website will be its capacity. Currently, the IRCTC system can book approximately 32,000 tickets per minute, but after the upgrade, this capacity will increase to over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute. The upgrade is expected to reduce the pressure on the website during peak hours and Tatkal bookings.

After the IRCTC website upgrade, the new Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will be able to handle over 4 million inquiries per minute. Currently, this capacity is around 400,000 per minute, meaning train, seat, and fare information will be available much faster than before.

New Features in Ticket Booking

Several new options will be added to the new website for passenger convenience. After the upgrade, passengers will be able to enter their preferred seat or berth options when booking tickets. Additionally, a new Fare Calendar feature will help compare fares for different dates, making it easier for passengers to choose the cheapest fare.

The new IRCTC website will have multi-language support, making ticket booking easier for passengers from different states across the country. The new system also plans to provide services for disabled passengers, students, and patients on a single platform.

Railway Tatkal booking will be easier

The new IRCTC website is undergoing several changes that will directly benefit those booking Tatkal tickets. The new changes include:

Repeated unnecessary CAPTCHAs will be reduced.

Pop-ups and flashy graphics will be removed, making the website faster.

The booking process will be simpler and faster.

Seat availability for all classes will be displayed simultaneously.

Currently, passengers have to check seat availability for each class, such as Sleeper, 3AC, and 2AC, separately. The new website will display available seats for all classes on a single screen. This will save time when searching for and booking tickets.
