IMD Alert: On August 18, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of widespread rain. The danger is greatest in Jharkhand. There is every possibility of very heavy rain here. Similarly, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in many states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. There is a serious threat of torrential rain, strong storm and lightning in many states of the country. According to meteorologists, due to the moisture coming from the Bay of Bengal and the area of cyclonic winds, the scope of rain is going to be quite wide in most parts of the country. In view of the possibility of landslides in hilly areas and waterlogging in plain areas, the administration and citizens have been instructed to remain alert.
Disaster rain in Jharkhand, warning of very heavy rain in 6 states including Bihar
On August 18, the worst form of weather will be seen in Jharkhand. According to the Meteorological Department, extremely heavy rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall may be recorded at isolated places in Jharkhand. Due to torrential rains in the state, there is a possibility of water logging in low-lying areas and rapid rise in the water level of rivers. Apart from this, an alert of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in 6 states of the country. According to the bulletin of the Meteorological Department, there is every possibility of extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Western Uttar Pradesh on August 18. There is a possibility of light to moderate and at some places heavy rain on August 18 in many states of North and Northeast India. Heavy rain may occur at isolated places in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh and West Bengal and Sikkim. There is a possibility of heavy rain in the states of North-East India like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. At the same time, heavy rains can be recorded at different places in the South Indian states of Kerala and Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Winds will blow at a speed of 50 km, there is a possibility of lightning
Along with rain, the effect of strong winds and lightning will also be seen in different parts of the country on August 18. Strong storm winds with speed of 40 to 50 km per hour and lightning are very likely at isolated places over Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat region, North Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Apart from this, winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, South Interior Karnataka and Telangana. There has been a warning of thunder and lightning at different places in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Strong surface winds will also occur over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Interior Karnataka.
Winds will blow at a speed of 65 km/hour on the coasts of Gujarat, Somalia and Oman.
The situation in the maritime areas will be quite challenging on August 18. In the Arabian Sea, squall winds reaching 45 to 55 km per hour are likely to prevail along the coasts of Gujarat, Somalia and Oman, over most parts of the central-west Arabian Sea and some parts of the south-west, north and central-east Arabian Sea. Their speed can increase up to 65 kilometers per hour. In view of the strong winds in the sea, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to go to coastal and deep sea areas.
