Weather Update: Heavy rain for the next 7 days in more than 17 states, severe weather will be seen in these areas
Heavy Rain Alert: Monsoon winds have once again become fierce across the country. According to the weekly weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on August 11, 2026, due to the influence of the low pressure area over north-west Madhya Pradesh and other weather systems, heavy to very heavy rains will continue for the next 7 days in more than 17 states of the country. The Meteorological Department has warned that on August 11, extremely heavy rains may be witnessed in East Rajasthan, which will remain extremely heavy on August 12 as well. Along with this, an alert of monsoon disaster has been issued from the plains of North-West India to the western Himalayan regions and Odisha.
First know the situation of last 24 hours
According to the Meteorological Department, due to strong weather systems, exceptionally heavy rainfall (more than 30 cm) was recorded in East Rajasthan during the last 24 hours. Western Madhya Pradesh also received extremely heavy rainfall (more than 21 cm). While very heavy rainfall (12 to 20 cm) was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Western Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) was recorded in Gangetic West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Western Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Tripura.
Weekly forecast of Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and UP
Widespread rain will continue over northwest India throughout the week. There is an alert of extremely heavy rain in East Rajasthan on August 11, while there will be very heavy rain on August 12 and heavy rain will continue on August 13 to 14. Widespread rainfall is likely over western Rajasthan on August 11 and 12 with heavy falls on August 12.
Very heavy rain has been predicted at isolated places in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Western Uttar Pradesh on August 11. Delhi-NCR and Haryana will see widespread rainfall during August 11-12 and then August 14-15, while heavy rainfall is expected to continue over these areas from August 14 to 17. There is a possibility of lightning in western Uttar Pradesh on August 11 and heavy rain between August 14 and 17. There will be heavy rain in eastern Uttar Pradesh from 13 to 17 August, with a period of heavy rain during 14 to 17 August.
Disaster in the mountains: Condition of Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir
The weather will remain harsh in the hilly states. There will be heavy rain at most places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh during the entire week of 11 to 17 August. There is a possibility of very heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh on 11th and 14th August while a warning of heavy rain has been given between 12th, 13th and 15th to 17th August.
Uttarakhand may receive very heavy rain on August 14, while during August 11 to 13 and August 15 to 17, heavy rain and lightning along with thunder may occur. There is a possibility of very heavy rain in Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding areas on August 11 and continuous heavy rain during August 12 to 17.
Weather patterns in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar-Odisha
In Central India, an alert of very heavy rain has been issued in Western Madhya Pradesh on August 11 and heavy rain will continue from August 11 to 13. There is a possibility of heavy rain in East Madhya Pradesh from 13 to 16 August and in Chhattisgarh from 11 to 14 August. Widespread rainfall is expected in Vidarbha on August 12-13 and August 17.
Due to the new system forming in the Bay of Bengal in eastern India, an alert of very heavy rain has been issued in Odisha from 11 to 13 August. Gangetic West Bengal will receive very heavy rain on August 12. After sporadic rains from 11th to 13th August, a new round of heavy rains will begin in Bihar from 14th to 17th August, due to which many rivers may be in spate. There has been a warning of storm winds at a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 11 and 12 August.
Situation in the states of North-East, West and South India
Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in Northeast India will receive widespread rainfall during August 12 to 17, with extremely heavy rainfall expected between August 15 and 17. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will see continuous heavy rain and thundershowers from August 11 to 17.
In Western India, there will be heavy rain in Konkan and Goa from 11 to 15 August and in Gujarat region on 11 and 12 August. A warning of very heavy rain has been issued in Central Maharashtra on August 12. Widespread rainfall will continue over coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe in South India from August 11 to 17. An alert has been issued for strong surface winds at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour and lightning during August 11 to 13 in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
