India’s First Bullet Train: Preparations are in full swing for the launch of India’s first bullet train. The first phase is targeted to begin on August 15th, 2027. The first high-speed bullet train will run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has shared a major update regarding the rapid pace of work related to this project.

Latest Status of the 508-Kilometer Track

Another major update regarding India’s first bullet train has arrived, shared by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav himself in a post on the social media platform Twitter (now X). He stated that the 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is now taking shape, and work on its completion is progressing at a rapid pace.

Electrification work in full swing

The Railway Minister’s post also included a video showing ongoing work on the bullet train route in Navsari, Gujarat. Ashwini Vaishnav wrote that electrification work on the track is progressing rapidly, marking a major step forward in the overall project. The video shows engineers and workers installing electrical systems on the high-speed bullet train corridor near Navsari.

How and what work is underway?

The work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor, which the Railway Minister shared in his post, is ongoing on 1,125 track kilometers, and reportedly involves the installation of 22,000 OHE masts to support the electrical wires on the track. 25,700 cantilever assemblies, essential for the overhead wire system, are being fitted along the Bullet Train corridor.

The Bullet Train will run at a speed of 320 km/h.

When the Bullet Train is at full speed, it will travel at a speed of 320 km/h on this track, significantly reducing the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Currently, it takes approximately six hours to travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad using most high-speed trains. The Bullet Train will cover this six-hour distance in just two hours.

The bullet train will stop at 12 stations.

According to information available so far regarding the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, 12 stops have been designated for this high-speed rail route. According to reports, the bullet train corridor passes through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The 12 major stations with designated stops include Mumbai (BKC), Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.
