Heavy Rain Alert Issued for 10 States, Including UP, Bihar, and Delhi; Check the Weather Forecast

 

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is set to take a turn once again starting from the evening of April 6. A rain alert has been issued for at least 10 states across the Northwest region, including UP, Bihar, and Delhi. Additionally, strong winds are forecast.

Heavy Rain Alert: The month of April has begun with stormy rains, and this trend shows no signs of abating anytime soon. According to the Meteorological Department, a second Western Disturbance is set to make its presence felt across Northwest India on April 7 and 8. The department has issued an alert for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in the national capital, Delhi, as well as in UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Himachal. A significant shift in weather patterns is expected across at least nine states, with temperatures likely to remain 4–5 degrees below normal levels.

Currently, cloud movement continues across the northern states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. On Sunday, several places witnessed hailstorms accompanied by rain. The possibility of hailstorms persists for April 6 as well. Meanwhile, on April 7 and 8, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms and rain due to a Western Disturbance.

Delhi’s Weather

The weather conditions in the national capital, Delhi, are expected to remain unsettled for the time being. The Meteorological Department states that while there may be brief spells of sunshine on April 6, the weather is likely to take a turn again by evening. Rain is forecast once more for April 7 and 8. The Meteorological Department also warns of the possibility of lightning strikes during the rainfall; therefore, it is advisable to avoid venturing outdoors while it is raining.

Stormy Rains in UP and Bihar

According to the Meteorological Department, a rain alert has been issued for Monday in Lucknow—the capital of Uttar Pradesh—and its surrounding areas. Additionally, rain accompanied by strong winds is likely in Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Mahoba, Firozabad, Jhansi, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Hardoi, and Kanpur. As for Bihar, light to moderate rainfall is expected in West Champaran, East Champaran, Bhojpur, Gaya, Patna, Kaimur, and Aurangabad.

In Rajasthan, there is a possibility of rain accompanied by strong winds from April 6 to April 8. Moderate rainfall may also occur in and around the Bharatpur and Jaipur regions on April 6. Furthermore, following the activation of a new Western Disturbance on April 7, rain accompanied by strong winds is expected in the Bikaner, Jodhpur, Ajmer, and Shekhawati regions. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in several locations.

Weather in Himachal

Snowfall occurred in the high-altitude regions of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, and the Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for April 7 and 8, warning of hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and strong winds across four to five districts of the state. Over the past 24 hours, intermittent light to moderate rainfall was also recorded in several parts of the state. Sarahan recorded 23.5 millimeters (mm) of rainfall, while Dharamshala and Sundernagar recorded 18.2 mm, Manali 17 mm, Shimla 13.4 mm, Kukumseri 13.2 mm, Kalpa 11 mm, Palampur 10.6 mm, and Kasauli 10 mm.

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Tuesday and Wednesday, warning of strong winds gusting between 40 and 60 km/h, hailstorms, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes in the Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts of the state. A new Western Disturbance is expected to become active over Northwest India starting Wednesday. The department has forecast that the spell of rainfall in the state will continue until April 11. In Jammu and Kashmir as well, light rainfall is expected on April 6 and 7, with the possibility of snowfall in the higher-altitude regions.

Weather in West Bengal

West Bengal witnessed rainfall on Sunday. The Meteorological Department has reported that humidity levels in West Bengal are expected to rise on April 6. Dry westerly winds will make their presence felt. However, there remains a possibility of rain until April 8 in the sub-Himalayan regions, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar. In Madhya Pradesh as well, rainfall accompanied by winds blowing at speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour has been forecast.
