LPG Booking Rules: These 3 Major LPG-Related Rules Are Set to Change from May 1st, Know Them Before Booking.

LPG Booking Rules: If you have an LPG cylinder in your home, then this news is specifically for you. In fact, starting May 1st, certain rules related to LPG cylinders are set to undergo changes. Let’s find out what they are.

LPG Delivery Authentication Code: April is drawing to a close, and May is about to begin. With the onset of May, your finances could once again take a hit. In fact, due to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, long queues have formed across the country for those seeking to procure LPG cylinders. It is anticipated that, starting May 1, 2026, the prices of LPG cylinders may undergo a revision once again. It is worth noting that domestic LPG cylinders have recently become costlier by ₹60, while the prices of commercial cylinders have been hiked three times within a single month.

Due to the disruption affecting the LPG cylinder supply chain, the government is advising citizens to switch to PNG (Piped Natural Gas). The government has also taken certain stringent measures in this regard. It has been stated that if a PNG pipeline is available in your area, yet you continue to utilize an LPG cylinder connection, your connection will be disconnected within the next three months.

Rules Regarding LPG Cylinders May Change

The government and oil marketing companies (OMCs) are now preparing to strictly enforce certain new rules starting May 1, 2026, in order to curb the black marketing of gas and streamline the system. You will no longer be able to book a cylinder whenever you wish.

According to the new regulations, a mandatory gap of at least 25 days must be observed between the booking of two cylinders in urban areas. Conversely, in rural or remote regions, this interval may be set at 45 days. This essentially means that even if your cylinder runs out prematurely, you will still be required to wait for the stipulated number of days before booking the next one. This measure has been implemented to curb panic-driven advance bookings and prevent hoarding.

OTP to Become Essential

Simply paying the delivery personnel will no longer suffice. The ‘Delivery Authentication Code’ (DAC)—essentially an OTP-based delivery system—is now being made a permanent and mandatory requirement. When you book a cylinder, a unique code will be sent to your registered mobile number. Subsequently, at the time of delivery, you will be required to provide this OTP. Without this code, the delivery will not be considered complete. This measure ensures that no one else can take possession of your gas cylinder, thereby curbing theft.
