Heatwave Claims Life in Kanpur; Ban Imposed on Daytime Work

According to reports, 45-year-old Sunil Kumar of Kanpur succumbed to the scorching heat while riding his motorcycle. His family members allege that he suffered a heatstroke due to prolonged exposure to the blistering sun. In view of the gravity of this incident, Nagendra Pratap, the Commissioner of the Agra Division, has imposed a ban on outdoor labor between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM across Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri. Employers have been issued strict directives to ensure the availability of drinking water and ORS for their workers.

Prayagraj Becomes the Country’s ‘Hotspot’

On Friday, a temperature of 45.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in Prayagraj. The intense heat has made it the hottest city in the country. The mercury also soared past the 44-degree mark in Varanasi, Hamirpur, and Agra. While the scorching heat was also evident in Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan) and Amravati (Maharashtra), the impact of the heatwave is most widespread across the plains of Uttar Pradesh.

Heatwave Alert for 60 Districts (April 25–27):

April 25 (60 Districts): A heatwave alert has been issued for nearly the entire state, including districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Ayodhya, Jhansi, Bareilly, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi, Firozabad, and Mainpuri.

April 26: The impact of the heatwave will persist in districts across Purvanchal (Eastern UP) and Central UP, including Gonda, Shravasti, and Lalitpur.

April 27: A heatwave warning remains in effect for eastern districts such as Prayagraj, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, and Ballia.

Relief in Sight: Weather to Change from April 26

Atul Singh, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, has provided a reassuring update. He stated that a new Western Disturbance will become active starting April 26. This shift will commence with light rainfall in Western UP and the Terai belt. Subsequently, showers accompanied by thunder and lightning will spread to other parts of both Western and Eastern UP. According to the scientist, this change is expected to bring about a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in temperature. These weather fluctuations are likely to persist until April 30.

Avoid venturing outdoors during the afternoon hours.

Stay hydrated and consume ORS.

Do not ignore symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or high fever.
