LPG Cylinders Rules: There have been many major changes regarding gas cylinder booking in recent months. During the America-Israel-Iran war, many new rules regarding LPG have been implemented. These also include rules for booking period of 25 days and 45 days, while the latest rules relate to LPG-PNG connection protocols of 30 days to 90 days.
The main objective of these rules is to reduce dependence on LPG, address supply crises, and curb black marketing. The government and oil marketing companies have emphasized the policy of “one household, one gas connection,” also known as “no double connections.”
What is the new 30-day rule?
This rule applies to both LPG and PNG customers. On May 25, 2026, the government amended the rules for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Under this, the Modi government gives Indian domestic consumers, whether they are Indane Gas, HP Gas, or Bharat Gas customers, 30 days to terminate their LPG connections.
According to the rules, “Consumers can apply for closure of LPG connection within 30 days of taking PNG connection.” For example, if you get a PNG connection on June 23, 2026, you will have exactly 30 days to remove your LPG connection and the last date in this example will be July 23, 2026.
Confusion about the 90-day rule
There is considerable confusion regarding the 90-day rule. On March 24th, the government announced that all LPG customers with PNG infrastructure in their area would be required to switch to PNG connections. These customers were given a three-month deadline to switch to PNG.
Failure to do so would result in their connections being suspended. Several reports claimed that this deadline expired on June 22nd, but judging by the date of the order, it could extend to June 24th or June 30th. The government has not set a specific deadline for the LPG suspension. Furthermore, the new order dated May 25th extends this rule and provides further relief.
25-Day and 45-Day Gas Cylinder Booking Rules
In the initial rules, the government issued 25-day and 45-day rules for LPG refills. The 25-day rule applies to customers in urban areas, while the 45-day rule applies to customers in rural areas. This means you will have to wait this period for your LPG refill. Previously, the booking interval was 21 days.
